Abby Road

March 12, 2011

I enjoyed the process of working on this piece very much.

This was my first serious attempt at mosaic art. The complexity of the design, for a beginner at least, felt like I’d bit off more than I could chew. I also found that building a picture, bit by bit, seemed unbearably slow. My sense of impatience towards seeing the final result was a withdraw symptom from the speedy, computer-aided picture building process, no doubt.

But my resistance towards slowing down the big reveal soon gave way to submission. The moment I discovered that the repetitiveness of nipping and shaping shattered glass into form was meditative, I was hooked. The sensation of physically placing pixels one by one was such a nice wee holiday from the daily grind when all was said and done.
