“The Enemy of Creativity is Fear…” Seth Gordon

March 16, 2011

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at this particular edge of possibilities before and with this blog on the other side. Like so many dreams and goals before it, the idea was dangerously close to being re-shelved, yet again, to infinity and beyond. You know for when I had more time!  Luckily some near and dear individuals who reside close to my heart pushed me over to the other side. Motivated in part I’m sure, by being tired of hearing me sing the same song.

The truth of the matter is that like all wishes sent up to the star filled sky, fulfilling them is less about finding time, and more about being afraid to fly. Early in the New Year I came across this perfectly timed post entitled Fearless Creativity. It’s chock-a-block full of encouragement and insight. In it the author cites snobbery, being a taskmaster, and apathy as the most notable opponents of fear. I couldn’t agree more! To counter these opponents she recommends teaching, practice, failing big and studying! Failing big is my favorite piece of advice. I can do that! (She says with a nervous laugh).

We are all full of little seeds waiting for the right time to germinate. Spring is right around the corner and I can’t wait to look within to see what grows.
