Princess Beatrice’s Hat

April 29, 2011

I watched the Royal Wedding today, along with about two billion other people. I’m here to say it loud and proud and contrary to popular opinion, I LOVED Princess Beatrice’s hat. It’s brilliant. It looks like it jumped straight out off a page from Alice in Wonderland. Maybe it’s because I still have Alice on the brain from yesterdays post. Or perhaps it’s because Princess Beatrice’s doll-like face and distinctive doll-like eyes, framed in that wildly, beautiful fascinator, created a perfectly epitomized Royal caricature.

Philip Treacy, the designer responsible for outfitting most of the Royal crowns we saw today, including Princess Beatrice of York, is my design hero.

It was predicted that 327,000 photos would be taken at the big event today – why not throw a humble sketch into the ring as well. It’s unfinished but just in-case my sketchbook turns into a pumpkin at the stroke of midnight, I thought it best to get it published.
